Come celebrate winter on Lake Sarah and support the Crow River Youth Hockey Association during the Da Shiver Ice Fishing Tournament Saturday, Feb. 2, from noon to 3 p.m.
The second annual event promises to be a fun-filled afternoon of fishing, skating, games for children, food, music and more.
Last year the Da Shiver tournament brought in more than 200 attendees, and organizers are gearing up for an even bigger and better tournament this year.
The tournament is the brainchild Delano resident Doug Lawman, a tournament official and seasoned ice fisherman. Having been a part of an annual ice fishing tournament on Lake Minnetonka for years, the idea occurred to Lawman to combine a passion with a little good old-fashioned fundraising and, before he knew it. "Da Shiver" was born.
The name, he points out, is a play on words. "Da" representing a Minnesota spin on "the" and "Shiver" ... well, you get the picture. Lawman said he is happy to promote an outdoor day for youth and adults.
The tournament runs from noon to 3 p.m. on the west end of Lake Sarah. Anyone, and all ages, are welcome. The fishing fee is $40 and puts entrants in the running for some great prizes including a portable fish house, ice auger, a house heater, a signed Minnesota Wild jersey, fishing and hockey gear, gift certificates and much more. All proceeds from the event support Crow River Tigers youth hockey.
"You won't want to miss this opportunity," said Lawman. "Remember, a bad day of fishing beats a good day of work. Come experience an afternoon of fun, fishing and fundraising on Lake Sarah."
